EV Charger Installation

A typical permitted Level 2 install runs $1,400–$2,800 with a permit fee of $120–$280 depending on the city. About 1 in 4 installs needs a 200A panel upgrade.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a permit for a Level 2 EV charger in Ventura County?+
Yes — every city in Ventura County and unincorporated county requires an electrical permit for any hard-wired 240V Level 2 charger. Permits cost $120–$280 and we handle them.
How long does an EV charger install take?+
Most installs are 3–6 hours on-site. End-to-end with permit and inspection is typically 2–3 weeks.
Will I need a panel upgrade?+
About 1 in 4 installs we do requires it — typically homes with 100A or 125A service panels that don't have headroom for a 48A continuous charger load. A 200A panel upgrade adds $2,500–$4,500.
Tesla Wall Connector or ChargePoint Home Flex?+
Tesla Wall Connector is the right pick if you drive a Tesla and want 48A charging. ChargePoint Home Flex is universal (J1772), supports 50A, and has the better app for non-Tesla EVs. Both are excellent.
Can I install my own EV charger?+
A few cities allow homeowner-pulled permits, but inspection requirements are strict and most homeowners hire a licensed C-10 electrician. The cost difference is small and the safety stakes are high.
Can I run my EV off solar?+
Yes. Pair the charger with rooftop solar (and ideally a battery) and your EV can charge from your own midday production instead of from $0.55/kWh evening grid power.
